And all that is within me,
bless His holy name.
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
And forget none of His benefits.

Why Worry?

WHY WORRY?

Certainly in this day and time in which we find ourselves,  it is easy to become stressed, worried, even fearful of the things going on around us.  The covid pandemic has certainly put a strain on the physical and the mental health of many in this country and across the world.  Now we find ourselves in the midst of what many are calling an economic crisis.  We are experiencing high inflation.  Things we buy and use everyday cost more than they used to.  Many families worry about making ends meet, having enough to meet the needs of their families.  While all of these things are true, while times are a bit more difficult than they used to be, we as children of God must be careful not to spend our time and energy worrying about things beyond our control.  Matthew 6:25-33 is a beautiful passage from the word of God, spoken by Christ Himself, that should give our minds great comfort and assure us even when times aren’t so good.   Matt. 6:25-33 says this, “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on.  Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? (26) Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? (27) Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?  (28)  So why do you worry about clothing?  Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin; (29) and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.  (30)  Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is and tomorrow is thrown into the oven,  will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?  (31) Therefore do not worry,  saying,  ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘ What shall we wear?’ (32) For after all these things the Gentiles seek.  For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.  (33) But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness,  and all these things shall be added to you.”

When we read and study God’s word we come to realize that there isn’t anything beyond God’s control.  We also realize  that God, through His divine providence, cares for all that He has created, even down to the smallest birds of the air.  As we read about God’s love for us we come to realize how important we are to Him and understand that while we may not have all the luxuries of life on Earth we do have everything we need for our survival both physically and spiritually provided by our heavenly Father.  The next time you begin to worry or become stressed out, remember God has got you.  All you have to do is seek after Him, obey and trust His Word and be assured He will take care of the rest.
